So being a female I really enjoy quotes. For my last quote I included a calvin and hobbes quote about time going by too fast. Well this time I wanted to share with you a similar one by Kurt Vonnegut. "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you'll look back and realize they were big things." I chose this one to start off my post today because I didn't want to use a cheesy one I know you've all heard before. I like this quote because I personally believe that not enough people appreciate their current situation. Sure maybe right now you don't have your ideal life but that's the fun of it. The journey. I really encourage all of you to take time out of your day today and appreciate where you are in life. The only thing I can really relate to this quote is freshman year. I remember freshman year of college as one quick blur. Those nine months went by so fast and if I could go back I would do it all the same. Have my heartbroken by a boy that wasn't worthy, stay up all night playing mario kart with my friends, I wouldn't trade any of those memories for the world.
Last year I decided to make a video of all the stupid things my friends did second semester on C3 (Cornerstone 3rd floor.) It's nothing great and not professionally made so please don't judge. It's mainly for the memories not the quality. I thought I would share with y'all but before I posted it I decided to double check there wasn't anything inappropriate on it. And seeing it even to this day brings tears to my eyes. I could not have asked for a better freshman year. I hope that everyone gets to experience that much happiness and friendship in their lifetime. I really think all of these people in this video have made me who I am today.
One more quote I want to share with you is a Tom Petty quote. I saw this one fitting since we're all in school right now, even worse summer school. "You have four years to be irresponsible here. Relax. Work is for people with jobs. You'll never remember class time, but you'll remember time you wasted hanging out with your friends. So, stay out late. Go out on a Tuesday with your friends when you have a paper due Wednesday. Spend money you don't have. Drink 'til sunrise. The work never ends, but college does..."
When you think about it all those little things like partying all night all added up to be one great thing. And I know that these next two years of college are going to fly by, but in the end I'll be happy with my memories. We all learn from own mistakes and if I have to be the first one to admit it I will, I make a lot of mistakes. But that's the fun of it. I hope you all can appreciate the little things in life that will someday end up being the big things. Go outside and play in the sunshine and remember you only get one shot so why not live the life you love?
This was a really sweet post. I felt the same way about my sophomore year as you did about your freshman. I lived in a suite with a bunch of random girls and we ended up just getting along perfectly and making funny videos and hanging out all the time. That year passed like a blink and I really do miss it so much and I feel like I took the little things for granted. Your video was really great and I think it is so funny that UNCW can be so tiny sometimes. I love when I have mutual friends with people I don't even know. That's the thing I think people take for granted about Wilmington sometimes. I think it would be really difficult to meet a complete stranger that has no connection to you on our campus. I'm going to for sure write down that quote because I really loved it!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a cute video. I agree. Freshman year is a complete blur. I never really believed people when they said that college goes by fast, but it really does. I honestly can't believe that I'll be graduating this December! I really like the Vonnegut quote too. Sometimes it's hard to focus on the present when we're looking towards the finish line, but we have to remember that the journey also matters too.
ReplyDeleteThis video is so cute, and I recognize so many of your friends and people that lived in Cornerstone! I wish I had recorded so many memories from freshmen year. What you said in this post is definitely true though, moments like these definitely don't last forever, but we can cherish the memory for as long as we want.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed my freshmen year so much and it is definitely a year in my life that I will never forget! I know that you said that freshmen year may these like one quick blur, but from what I saw in the video I'm sure you have many memories that will always be with you!
Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post this week. This is my last class before I enter the "real world" and my big-girl job replaces my college courses. Your video made me smile and recollect freshman year. It seems like it was yesterday! It is important to cherish the memories and make life-long friendships. After reading your post and watching your video, I went on facebook and watched the videos I had made from forever ago. Thanks for reminding me to stop and appreciate the people and friends in my life!
Wow this post is intense. Helped me realize I need to appreciate the position I'm in now. Idealizing a situation can only make you miss out. Do you have to be a girl to like quotes?
ReplyDeleteAnother blog that almost brought me to tears! You are exactly right about living in the moment and taking it all in. I'm about to graduate in December and it just really hit me this past semester that I won't even have a time like this again in my life. I have no heavy responsibilites yet, and the world is my playgroud. I've made some great friends these past four years and we have had some amazing experiences together. I plan to live this next and last semester of my college career to the fullest!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA!! Nice, I do miss C3..trust me it was a blur to me as well..I remember when Jeremy (my roommate now) had to "make out" with a poster and he rubbed his face against it. Good times, plenty more to be had, and it's good that you realize all this so you can capitalize on the upcoming years. Nice Petty quote by the way!
